Yes. You can extend blade life by cleaning them and removing buildup, but this is temporary. If performance issues continue, replacing the blades is the best solution. We recommend that you wipe the rubber of your blade with a microfiber towel to clean off any contaminants from the rubber. Do this as needed, depending on your local weather conditions. We also recommend cleaning the windshield with a heavy-duty glass cleaner such as Rain-X Xtreme Clean. Oftentimes, road grime, oil, pollen, waxes, and worn rain repellent can create a film on the windshield and limit the blade from getting a clean swipe. This can cause streaking, smearing, skipping, chattering, or squeaking.
As a regular maintenance tip, in addition to wiping residue off your wiper blades, we recommend Rain-X Glass Cleaner or Rain-X 2 in 1 Glass Cleaner & Rain-Repellent to keep your windshield clean, clear, and your wiper blades performing at their best. If the wiper blades are old (1-2 years, depending on the blade), we recommend replacement.
